BANAUE RICE TERRACES
THE 8TH WONDER OF THE WORLD
The existing tourist attractions in the province are classified under 4 categories namely man-made,historical,cultural and natural sports.Dubbed as the "8TH WONDER OF THE WORLD" is the BANAUE RICE TERRACES which is the most well known of Ifugao's terraces.Among the other popular terraces in the province are the Bangaan,Batad,Mayoyao and Hapao rice terraces. Magat Dam,the biggest dam in asia, in the municipality of Alfonso Lista is also an added man-made attraction in the province.The Banaue Rice Terraces is the legacy of a proud,hardworking people who toiled and carved hours under the sweltering heat of the sun pouring rain and transformed a mountaneous terrain into terraces.Carved out of the hillside by Ifugao tribes people 2000 to 3000 yrs ago without the aid of machinery to provide level step where the natives plant rice.And they are still in the use today. In 1995 they were declared a UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE.
